Texas will be centerstage for a total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, 2024!  In Bastrop, at approximately 12:20 pm, the moon will start to block the sun causing an (almost) total solar eclipse. The sun is expected to eclipse until 2:25 pm. We're located right outside the path of totality, making Bastrop a great place to view the eclipse without having to maneuver the crowds. MCDADE’S EMPORIUM AND ICE CREAM SALOON

Take a trip to the past in our old-fashioned general store. Our Austin dining establishment pays tribute to the historic Bastrop County city of McDade, a town that embodies the spirit of old Texas. A visit to McDade’s Emporium & Ice Cream Saloon will be a stroll down memory lane, where you can buy candy by the pound, sip a rich milkshake or indulge in a luscious ice cream cone. McDade’s is also the place to be for one of today’s most sought-after treats: freshly brewed Starbucks coffee! The heavenly aromas of specialty coffee drinks and house-baked pastries are a perfect pairing. Also, our selection of gifts, souvenirs, pottery and sundry items makes for great browsing while you wait for your vanilla latte. You can also pick up a hot sandwich, salad or some fruit for a picnic on our lovely grounds or for your travels back home.

STORIES

Taking its name from both its lofty perch on the second story overlooking stands of pecan trees as well as the impressive literary history of Bastrop, Stories is an elegant dinner-only restaurant that dishes up inspired haute cuisine in a scenic setting. Sidle up to the pecan-filled long bar to enjoy a glass of your favorite bourbon, or join your colleagues for a game of pool or shuffleboard after a long day of meetings. Our tempting bar menu of appetizers is perfectly accompanied by a Texas brew or your favorite cocktail. In keeping with saloon tradition, Shellers pays tribute to the good old-fashioned Texas barrelhouse piano bars and the intrepid musicians who helped make them so popular. One of the original barrelhouse blues piano-pounders, Roosevelt Williams – also known as the Grey Ghost – rode the freights, picking up piano gigs all over Texas and the Southwest, appearing as if out of nowhere and slipping away in similar fashion.
