Texas will be centerstage for a total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, 2024!  In Bastrop, at approximately 12:20 pm, the moon will start to block the sun causing an (almost) total solar eclipse. The sun is expected to eclipse until 2:25 pm. We're located right outside the path of totality, making Bastrop a great place to view the eclipse without having to maneuver the crowds. Get accurate Texas Eclipse viewing information and plan your trip to Bastrop for the 2024 Solar Eclipse!

McKINNEY ROUGHS NATURE PARK

Characteristics of four Texas regions converge to create an unusual blend of natural resources at McKinney Roughs Nature Park, adjacent to the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort & Spa and connected by way of a trail system. The park’s 1,100 acres include rolling box canyons, wildflower meadows, lazy river bends and a diverse biological population. Visitors can explore 18 miles of trails by foot or horseback or take a guided raft or kayak trip down the Lower Colorado River. Additional fun and team-building activities for leisure and business travelers include zip-lining, a rock-climbing wall challenge, ropes courses and guided night hikes.

Additional options include:

  • Lost Pines Interpretive Hike: A naturalist guide explains the region’s rich history, diverse flora and fauna, ecosystems, geography and the unique existence of the Lost Pines. Choose a morning or evening hike for different experiences.
  • Native Animals Presentation: Learn about the many reptiles, birds and mammals of the area, and see some of them for yourself during the session. Your knowledgeable guide will answer questions about habitat and the area.
  • Rock Climbing and Zip-Lining: Certified guides and naturalists at McKinney Roughs offer full-day and half-day rock-climbing classes and programs for adults, families and children. A 40-foot climbing tower gives you an opportunity to experience rock climbing and finish with an exciting run on the zip line. Participants must meet the minimum age of 7 years.

Advance reservations are recommended for all McKinney Roughs activities. You may contact the park directly by calling (512) 303-5073 in Austin or Bastrop or toll-free at (800) 776-5272, ext. 8021.
