We have serious puppy love in Bastrop, so we’re not exaggerating when we say every day is National Dog Appreciation Day here. You and your furry friends are more than welcome to visit. Bastrop is full of pet-friendly places - including several lodging properties and restaurants. Here are a few of our favorites:

Shopping Spree

Everyone deserves a little retail therapy every now and again. Community Gardens is perfect for shopping for pups and their parents. It’s a wide-open, indoor/outdoor marketplace where you can wander among beautiful, intriguing plants and stretch your legs a bit. Shop indoor market finds, or head outside for plant shopping.

Outdoor Fun

If your pup’s love language is water, then you should definitely take them kayaking along the bends of the Colorado River with Rising Phoenix Adventures Tours & Events or the Bastrop River Company. Both are very accommodating to dogs. They are welcome in the kayak and allowed to stay with you while you complete the necessary paperwork and training before the adventure. They’re also permitted on the shuttle to the starting location.

Dining

When you’re both ready to chow down, head to Heroes Sports Bar and Scratch Kitchen for burgers, salads, pizza or gelato in the Community Gardens or Gracie’s for American comfort and Southern hospitality in a quaint downtown setting.

Nestled right along the Colorado River, Neighbor’s Kitchen and Yard is another cool spot to hang that welcomes dogs and offers you a big riverside deck, pizza, draft beer and cocktails, plus live music. If it’s still early, head over to Maxine’s for a traditional breakfast fare and an outdoor patio perfect for dogs. Roadhouse also has a dog-friendly patio and dang good burgers and sandwiches as well.

LODGING

You’ll both get a true Bastrop welcome at any of our several pet-friendly lodging spots. The Hyatt Regency Lost Pines is beautiful, relaxing and full of outdoor roaming options. They even offer complimentary dog beds, bowls and treats.

Pecan Street InnComfort Suites and Quality Inn are also happy to see dogs among their guests. For the ultimate outdoor adventure with your pup, Bastrop is also home to perfect camp spots and cabins, some right inside Bastrop State Park or Mckinney Roughs Nature Park.
