About Bastrop

Nestled along the banks of a sleepy stretch of the Colorado River sits Bastrop, “the most historic small town in Texas.” Perched beneath the shade of the Lost Pines, Bastrop moves to the rhythm of the river’s gurgle, slow but determined. Home to a bustling arts scene and a pioneering attitude, Bastrop promises an unforgettable escape amid breathtaking nature. Quaint restaurants open their doors to offer home-cooked fare, imaginative art galleries display the creations of brilliant local artists, and charming boutiques and shops line Historic Bastrop’s lovely streets. History

Established in 1832, Bastrop is home to a long and fascinating history. Originally just a courthouse, hotel, stockade, and general store, Bastrop became a farming and timber powerhouse in the mid-nineteenth century, allowing it to become the charming town it is today. Much of its history is evident when walking through the town and admiring the hundreds of sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Named a “Texas Main Street” city by the Texas Historical Commission, Bastrop is home to a wonderful community proud of its history and enthusiastic for its future.
