Allen-Bell House

From 1859 to 1866, this house was the home of Major Robert D. Allen, Commandant of the Bastrop Military Institute. In 1866, the Bell brothers purchased the property for their mother. It has been the home of four generations of Bells. The exterior walls are of vertical board and batten. The bedrooms on the west were a part of the original military barracks, which were added to the house in the 1890s.
