Launch your summer right this Memorial Day weekend in Bastrop, TX. Lounge by Lake Bastrop, drift along the Colorado River, camp among the famous Loblolly Pines, or settle in for some live music and great home cooking in Downtown Bastrop. Here are our picks:
Play in the Water
Plan for a weekend at Lake Bastrop, where boating, skiing, fishing, or just lounging by the shore can all be on the agenda. Both Lake Bastrop North Shore Park and Lake Bastrop South Shore Park offer campsites, hiking, biking, and more fun than you can fit in a three-day weekend. There’s a retail store for the essentials and places to rent watercrafts.
Head out for a relaxing paddle on the Colorado River with the Bastrop River Company along the El Camino Real Paddling Trail, 6 miles of gentle river between Fisherman’s Park and the Lost Pines Nature Trail. You can rent canoes or kayaks or bring your own. There’s also a splash pad and playground at Fisherman’s Park for smaller ones.
Camp in the Lost Pines
Whether a comfy cabin or a cozy tent is your natural tendency, Bastrop is blessed with several excellent options of both. Opt for a themed 1 or 2-bedroom cabin right in the Lost Pines Forest at 9E Ranch or you could stay inside Bastrop State Park in a walk-in tent, at an RV hook-up site or cabin.
There’s something peaceful about hearing the gentle lull of a lake as you sleep. At the Lake Bastrop North Shore and South Shore Parks, you can do just that in a cabin, tent, or your own RV. Over at North Shore, you can stay in one of the fully equipped Airstreams or at any of three GLAT rentals. Check them out here, here and here. All are equipped with an outdoor gas grill comfy chairs surrounding a fire pit for a nice spot to watch those bright Texas stars.
Kick Back with Good Food & Live Music
Being this close to Austin, Bastrop benefits from several outstanding music acts. You can hear them frequently at Neighbor’s Kitchen & Yard. Order a pizza and a brew and take in a fantastic view of the sunset over the Colorado River while you listen.
You can also catch live music over at CC Wine & Co. It’s Bastrop’s complete wine experience with both Texas and non-Texas wines ready to be enjoyed by the flight, glass, or bottle.

Along with multiple pools and a lazy river connecting them all, there’s a spa, a gorgeous golf course, and loads of outdoor activities like a family fishing experience, horseback riding, and a zip line tour. They have amazing restaurants too.
