T.A. Hasler arrived in Bastrop in 1861 as a penniless teenager, but was a prominent businessman when he died in 1909. he helped to organize the First National Bank in 1889. After 1926, the Hasler's daughter, Mary Perkins, added extensively to this house. A movie, "Fireflies in the Garden," starring Julia Roberts and Ryan Reynolds, was filmed here in April 2007.
