Texas will be centerstage for a total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, 2024!  In Bastrop, at approximately 12:20 pm, the moon will start to block the sun causing an (almost) total solar eclipse. The sun is expected to eclipse until 2:25 pm. We're located right outside the path of totality, making Bastrop a great place to view the eclipse without having to maneuver the crowds. Old County Jail and Bastrop County Courthouse

  • 804 Pine St
  • Bastrop, TX 78602
On the corner of Water and Pine is the old County Jail, built in 1891, a masterpiece of late 19th century second empire Victorian. It was also the site of several hangings and still has the infamous "hanging hook" on its second floor. Adjacent to the jail, at 804 Pine, is the Bastrop County Courthouse, which was built in 1883-1884 and altered substantially in the 1920s.
