Details
This was originally the home of Dr. David Sayers, who moved to Bastrop so that his sons could attend the Bastrop Military Institute. His son, Joseph, became the governor of Texas in 1899, serving until 1903. Originally, the home was a two-room cottage with a dog-trot passage and an outdoor kitchen. Each room has a fireplace. A second story was added in 1910, and the house was restored in the 1960s. It is now recognized for its herb garden.
