Due to the current weather conditions, many areas of Bastrop are experiencing power outages. The National Guard is deployed across Texas to conduct welfare checks and assist local authorities in helping those in need.
The purpose of Bastrop Art in Public Places(BAIPP) is to expand the enjoyment, access, and appreciation of art. This includes assisting the Bastrop City Council in developing guidelines and standards for the selection, display, and maintenance of art in the city of Bastrop and to acquire by purchase, loan, or donation Works of Art for display. The BAIPP reports to the Bastrop City Council and the Mayor. The BAIPP Task Force was created by the Bastrop City Council to advocate for the positive role art and design can play in an urban environment, such as the city of Bastrop. With this primary goal, the BAIPP has established a process for the City of Bastrop to acquire Works of Art, through a collaboration between members of the community and artists, to enhance the art and culture of the City of Bastrop. The BAIPP Artist Selection Pool consists of qualified individuals interested in facilitating the creation and installation of public art projects in Bastrop. When new art projects are proposed, a Jury Panel of 3-5 persons will be chosen from the Artist Selection Pool to serve in coordinating and overseeing the Call to Artists, proposed project designs, and budgets. The Jury Panel will make final recommendations to the Task Force, and subsequently, the Task Force will seek final approval from the City Council.
