What is a ๐๐ˆ๐† ๐’๐ˆ๐“? Itโ€™s a birdwatching circle! The participants see how many birds can be spotted or heard without leaving the circle. Itโ€™s great for beginners because more experienced folks will be around to offer guidance.
ย
The Bastrop County Audubon Society will provide an experienced birder to lead each circle. This is a come-and-go event so come whenever you like!
ย
Please bring whatever you need to be comfortable, whether it be a blanket or chair, binoculars or scope, field guide, water, snacks, etc. You also donโ€™t have to bring anything to participate! Your eyes and ears are enough! Many birders stand at the โ€œsitsโ€ and many folks bird by ear and with their naked eyes. There are restrooms in Bob Bryant Park.
ย
If you love apps, we recommend 2:
1) Merlin Bird ID (by Cornell Lab) for identifying birds and
2) eBird (from Cornell Lab of Ornithology) for submitting your checklists of spotted birds
.
Download apps, create an account, and then let the apps use your location to recommend a bird pack to download. Then explore! Just one person from each circle will report our sightings on eBird but itโ€™s great to get familiar with these apps so you can start spotting and reporting when you're out and about!
ย
We plan on hosting these every 4th Saturday in different parks.
