Roots of Blues: Sledge & Haney at Music in the Museum

Details

Bastrop, TX – The roots of blues music lie deep in the African American experience in the American South, where elements of spirituals, work songs, field hollers, and European harmonies intertwined to create a unique and soulful sound. From these humble beginnings, a musical revolution was ignited, giving birth to a myriad of genres that continue to shape the world’s sonic landscape.

At noon on Saturday, September 21, Bastrop County's renown Blues/Americana duo, Sledge & Haney, guides the audience on a historical musical journey of blues at Bastrop Museum's Music in the Museum concert series. The monthly concert is held in the Special Exhibition room of the Bastrop Museum & Visitor Center every third Thursday of the month, 904 Main St in Bastrop, TX. The Sledge & Haney concert is free and open to the public of all ages.

Barney Sledge, a Rosanky native, blends his soulful harmonica with Smithville native Jeff Haney’s percussive acoustic guitar. Together, their raw vocals complement the performance with danceable energy and authenticity. "This extraordinary duo traverses the spectrum of blues-influenced music, from the heartfelt melodies of Americana to the electrifying rhythms of rock n’ roll," says Nancy Wood, Director of Events at the Bastrop Museum & Visitor Center.

Audiences can expect to be captivated by the soulful depths of jazz, the definitive intensity of rhythm and blues, and the timeless appeal of rock and roll", Nancy says. She adds, "Sledge & Haney’s performance is a testament to the enduring power of the blues and its ability to inspire and connect with audiences of all ages."
