Saddle up and head on over to the cool comfort of Bastrop Museum & Visitor Center for a rootin’-tootin’ celebration of National Cowboy Day on Saturday, July 27th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Located at 904 Main St., Bastrop, TX, the National Cowboy Day event is free and open to the public for all ages.

Immerse yourself in the rich traditions of Texas cowboys with a lineup of exciting activities:

  • Authentic Cowboy Poetry: Hear the tales and legends of the Wild West as authentic Texas cowboys recite poetry that captures the spirit of the frontier.
  • Cowboy Puppet Show for Children: Delight your little buckaroos with a special puppet show featuring cowboy-themed stories and characters.
  • Big Screen Showing of "Workin’ From Can't to Can't" and Rodeo Hot Dog Lunch: Watch the award-winning documentary that chronicles the lives and legacies of Texas' first black cowboys while you enjoy a specially-priced Rodeo Dog from Dugson Dogs, the hot dog street cart in front of the museum. This powerful film, archived at the Texas Museum of Moving Images, sheds light on an important chapter of Texas history.
  • Cowboy Songs Sing-Along: Join in a lively sing-along of classic cowboy songs that have been passed down through generations.
  • Campfire Story-Telling: Gather 'round for captivating stories told by seasoned storytellers, bringing the cowboy era to life.

This event is free and open to the public. Visitors are encouraged to don their favorite cowboy hats and chaps, boots and bonnets to fully embrace the spirit of the day. Step into the coolness of the Bastrop History Museum, where the history of the Lone Star State is preserved and celebrated.
