Little Sit

What is a LITTLE SIT? It’s a birdwatching circle! The participants see how many birds can be spotted or heard without leaving the circle. It’s great for beginners because more experienced folks will be around to offer guidance.

The Bastrop County Audubon Society will provide an experienced birder to lead each circle. This is a come-and-go event so come whenever you like!

Please check website for locations (NOTE: Because of the holidays there are no Little Sits in November or December)

Please bring whatever you need to be comfortable, whether it be a blanket or chair, binoculars or scope, field guide, water, snacks, etc. You also don’t have to bring anything to participate! Your eyes and ears are enough! Many birders stand at the “sits” and many folks bird by ear and with their naked eyes. There are restrooms in Bob Bryant Park.

If you love apps, we recommend 3:

1. Merlin Bird ID (by Cornell Lab) for identifying birds by song
2. Audubon for identification and comparisons
3. eBird (from Cornell Lab of Ornithology) for submitting a list of birds you see

Download apps, create an account, and then let the apps use your location to recommend a bird pack to download. Then explore! Just one person from each circle will report our sightings on eBird but it’s great to get familiar with these apps so you can start spotting and reporting when you're out and about!

We plan on hosting these every 4th Saturday in different parks.
